Minister for Infrastructure 

Born and educated in Darwin, Northern Territory.  Mother of three children.  Worked as a journalist for 17 years in Darwin, Melbourne, Hong Kong and Hanoi - primarily in print with some radio news and program producer experience.  Also worked as an Industrial Officer for the Australian Journalists' Association (now MEAA), Victoria Branch with AIRC and VIRC advocacy roles in mediation and arbitration.  Worked as systemic advocate for people with a disability in Victoria and became CEO of NT Carers. 

First elected to Legislative Assembly of Northern Territory in August 2001 for the seat of Karama for the Australia Labor Party.  Held th Parliamentary positions of Government Whip and Chair for the Environment and Sustainability Committee.  Re-elected in 2005 as Member for Karama and appointed to Cabinet as Minister for Ramily and Community Services, Minister for Sport and Recreation.  Promoted in Cabinet reshuffle to Minister for Lands and Planning, Infrastructure and Transport, Minister for Family and Community Services and Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

Re-elected as Member for Karama in 2008 and appointed to Cabinet as Treasurer, Minister for Lands and Planning, Infrastructure and Transport and Lead of Government Business.

Promoted in Cabinet reshuffle in 2009 to Deputy Chief Minister, Treasurer, Minister for Lands and Planning, Minister for Infrastructure, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
