137 industry representatives from 46 companies attended the workshop on 4 August on whether Sydney's roads are "headed in the right direction".  Presentations from the panelists generated a lively debate.

David Stuart-Watt is Director Client Services with the RTA and responsible for the development and delivery of programs and projects throughout NSW. David's 30 year career in Transport and Roads has been with the public sector both in Australia and the UK. David has a Master Degree in Transport and Infrastructure and graduated with an MBA from the European Business School, INSEAD, in France. David has been involved in the planning, development and delivery of Sydney Transport Infrastructure since the early 1980s.

Professional Profile

 

 

 

David has worked in both public and private sectors in Australia and overseas.  His most recent work is with Linfox Transport Australia where his role has included responsibility for Research, Development and Training activities connected with the transport and automotive industry.  David has been commissioned by a number of government agencies and private companies to conduct reviews of training programs and organisational structures.

 

 

He has led significant cultural change within Linfox as Group Manager of Learning and Development Division through extension of a range of operational, administrative and occupational best practice initiatives within the company.

 

 

He is also currently General Manager of the Australian Automotive Research Centre, the largest privately owned Research and Development facility of its type in Australia. In this role David has negotiated major Research and Development tenancies with Robert Bosch, Toyota Motor Corporation, PBR and many others.  The achievements of AARC have been largely due to Davids strategic planning and targeted marketing of services to customers.  In 5 years this facility has been transformed from to a highly profitable, unique, Australian centre of Automotive expertise.

 

 

David also fills the role of General Manager of Anglesea Training Services, a Linfox owned company,  which operates to service the training needs of customers, external to Linfox. This role has allowed him to influence a wider range of major Australian Transport Companies through the development of commercially focused training programs.  In the 7 years he has been managing this company it has grown remarkably and now operates in all states of Australian and throughout the Asia Pacific Region.

 

 

David has also conducted major reviews for the Tasmanian and Northern Territory Governments and has recently undertaken a major transport study for Shell ASEAN+ Region focusing on Malaysia and neighbouring countries.

 

 

 

Throughout his professional career, David has maintained close links with the community, dedicating much energy and time to local government, hospital committees, school councils, fire brigade, golf club and special interest groups such as regional economic development, education and the environment.

 

Garry J. Glazebrook

 

 

Mr Garry Glazebrook

 

Mr. Glazebrook has over 13 years’ experience in consulting and 15 years in policy and senior management positions in State and Federal Government agencies in Australia. He specialises in transport and urban consulting, including transport planning, rail operations, road and rail infrastructure, intelligent transport systems and transport strategies. He has a Master’s degrees in Urban Planning and in Operations Research, and is currently undertaking a PhD on the topic of Relative Accessibility in Sydney. His policy experience in government covers employment policy, land and infrastructure co-ordination and housing as well as transport modelling. 

Garry has published widely on urban transport and planning, and has been Australia’s representative on the International Standards Organisation Working Party dealing with Intelligent Public Transport Systems. He is a member of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) and the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Transport – Sustainable Cities Project for Sydney.

EXPERIENCE:               Mr. Glazebrook has over 13 years’ experience in consulting and 15 years in policy and senior management positions in State and Federal Government agencies in Australia. He has wide expertise in transport, including transport planning and evaluation, intelligent transport systems, public transport strategies, market research and economic analysis. His background also includes experience in co-ordination of land development, strategic planning, and infrastructure and housing finance. He has a wide range of publications in transport and urban planning issues, and is currently completing doctorate on Accessibility in Sydney.

Mr. Glazebrook has been Australia's representative on the International Standards Organisation’s Technical Committee dealing with the application of advanced information technology to Public Transport. He is a member of the International Union of Public Transport, and was a member of the Steering Committee on the Warren Centre Sustainable Transport - Sustainable Cities Project for Sydney.

Prof David Hensher (University of Sydney)

David Hensher is Professor of Management, and Director of the Institute of Transport Studies: The Australian Key Centre of Teaching and Research in Transport Management in The Faculty of Economics at The University of Sydney. David is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, Past President of the International Association of Travel Behaviour Research and a Past Vice-Chair of the International Scientific Committee of the World Conference of Transport Research. David is on the editorial boards of 10 of the leading transport journals and Area Editor of Transport Reviews. David is series and volume editor of the handbook series "Handbooks in Transport" published by one of the world's most prestigious academic publishing houses - Elsevier/Pergamon press. He has published extensively (over 300 papers) in the leading international transport journals and key journals in economics as well as five books. David has advised numerous government and private sector organisations on matters related to transportation especially matters related to forecasting demand for existing and new transportation services, for example the Speedrail project, \the North-West Sydney Transport Study, the M2, M4, M5 and cross-city tunnel tollroads. David is regarded as Australia's most eminent expert on matters relating to travel demand.    Appointments have included: a member of the executive committee of ATEC, a consortium promoting a freight rail system between Melbourne and Darwin.
