SEITA hosts visit by ARF Board

ARF Board members were given a spectacular view of Melbourne’s $2.5 billion EastLink tollway project last week.

During a visit to the offices of the Southern and Eastern Integrated Transport Authority (SEITA), the Board members took the opportunity to review progress of the project from a helicopter.

SEITA CEO and newly appointed ARF Board member, Mr Ken Mathers, also briefed his fellow Board members and ARF executive on the progress of the mammoth project, which incorporates 45 kilometres of new roadway between Mitcham and Frankston.

EastLink is being built by Thiess John Holland for ConnectEast, the company awarded the contract to own and operate the toll road for a period of approximately 39 years. SEITA is a statutory authority established by the Victorian Government to manage both the bid process and the State’s ongoing interests in the project.

Construction on EastLink commenced in March 2005 and is expected to be completed by November 2008.

ARF CEO Ian Webb says EastLink will be a vital piece of road infrastructure for industry and residents in Melbourne’s south-east.

“Based on our briefing, EastLink is quite clearly an exemplary project in terms of the level of co-operation between the stakeholders, reflected in the excellent progress to date,” he says.
