ARF seeking nominees for IRF Fellowship

The ARF is seeking nominees from within its membership for a 2008 International Road Federation (IRF) Fellowship.

The IRF Fellowship Program for graduate engineers and transportation managers has been a cornerstone in the work of the International Road Federation for more than 50 years. The Program provides a one-time grant toward the costs of university graduate study in fields related to the development of better and safer roads and road networks worldwide.

“Australia has a proud history of producing IRF Fellows going right back to the commencement of the program,” says ARF Chief Executive, Ian Webb.

“Our most recent nominee, Gavin Soward from the Queensland Department of Main Roads, will undertake his Fellowship later this year.

“This is a tremendous opportunity, both for individuals and their sponsoring organisations, and I would encourage all members to consider it.”

IRF Fellowship candidates should have:

. demonstrated potential as next-generation leaders in the highway industry – financing, administration, planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance;

. three to fifteen years of progressive work experience in transportation;

. a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in a transportation-related discipline;

. the ability to actively engage in study and/or research in English;

. a commitment to full-time study for a minimum of nine months;

. the ability to travel to and within the United States; and

. strong endorsements from cognisant national Road Associations (or similar agencies) and/or IRF Members.

“As the Australian representative of the International Road Federation, the ARF has been asked to advise the IRF of any interest in the 2008 Fellowship Program before July 15 this year, with nominations then due by October 1 2007,” Mr Webb said.

“Any member organisation interested in this opportunity should contact me, either by phone on (03) 9821 5255 or email, as soon as possible.”
