Roads Australia has welcomed the road spending promises announced in this week’s Queensland State Budget.
“Although it would appear the budget has been supported by increased Federal funding, the road spending programs reflect a continuing, substantial commitment of State Government funds,” RA President, Ray Fisher, said today.
“We are especially pleased at the ongoing commitment to roads in conjunction with the Government’s broader transport program.
“However the question remains whether the needs for renewal and maintenance of the network are adequately funded, and we see this as a critical priority.”
Mr Fisher said Roads Australia would support the Queensland Government in continuing to work with the private sector to ensure the planning for road projects delivered a co-ordinated pipeline of work, providing surety and jobs for the road industry.
“I would also add that the potential for the private sector to finance roads is even more critical as the Budget has become tighter,” he said.
