Message from the Council
To the Fellows of Roads Australia,

Another big year for the Roads Australia Fellowship is coming to a close and we encourage you to enjoy a little downtime with family and friends knowing that it has been a hugely successful year. In recognition of the commitment and hard work of the entire Fellowship, it is sure to get even bigger and better in 2018.
In 2017 we welcomed 30 new Fellows to now form a Fellowship of 108 leaders that will help shape our industry over the years to come.  Equally as exciting, in 2017 we engaged with over 850 young professionals within our industry that now have clear visibility of Roads Australia and our vision to remain at the forefront of Building Consensus and Driving Outcomes.
Most importantly of all, a huge thank you to John Holland and the entire Fellowship and Young Professionals network for your continued support and effort in getting us to this very strong position, and a big congratulations to our Project Winners and our first ever PPP Award winner, Elouise Robinson, Arcadis.
Looking forward to an even bigger 2018.

Ross Campbell
Fellowship Council Chair

Welcome to our 2018 Fellows

Our cohort of RA Fellows will grow by another 30 in 2018.

The 2018 Fellows were officially welcomed at our November workshop and Annual Dinner. RA's own version of 'speed dating' provided an opportunity for the new participants to get to know each other better, which will make it easier to hit the ground running.

Annual Dinner caps off another successful year

The Annual Fellows Dinner held in Melbourne was a national event that brought together Mentors and Fellows, past and present.

As usual, the dinner was preceded by an afternoon session at which our 2018 intake was officially inducted, and our 2017 Fellows presented their group research projects (see above).

This year's program has seen our Fellows take greater ownership of the program through the Fellows Council. As a result, the program continues to evolve to meet the specific needs of the participants.

The multi-state lunches, in particular, were well supported and prove that distance is no inhibitor to the effectiveness of the network.

Both the Council and the RA support team are keen to hear from Fellows as to how we can continue to develop and enhance the opportunities created.  If you'd like to discuss, contact Hannah at RA.

Congrats to the winning project team!

This year's winning research project not only threw up some thought-provoking content, it also had the audience and judges in stitches.

Team Three's presentation on digital technology and it’s impact on Australia’s road network management borrowed from Seven's Sunrise program, complete with a Sunrise set, stand-in Kochie and Sam, and even an appearance by the Cash Cow.

Well done to the team of Brendan Gough (Ventia), Isaac Hoklas (Jacobs), Brendan Hoyle (QTMR), Debbie McMillan (Aurecon), Matt McQuaid (Aurecon) and Brett Mottolini (Fulton Hogan).

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS 'PPP' AWARD  - Promise, Passion and Pursuit

Melbourne Cup Day 2017 threw up the youngest ever winner and trainer – and in keeping with that theme, the ‘youngsters’ of the infrastructure industry met in Sydney on Cup Night for our first ever RA Young Professionals Annual Dinner and Award presentation.

The sell-out event drew over 200 young professionals (under 35s), who got some great career-building tips and inspiration from our guest speaker, Transport for NSW Deputy Secretary, Steve Troughton.

The Dinner also featured the announcement of the winner of our first annual Young Professionals Award to Elouise Robinson, who is a Graduate Highway Engineer with Arcadis.

Thanks to our event sponsor, Arup, and the RA Fellowship Council for helping put this tremendous event together.

Like our Fellows Program, the Young Professionals networking initiative has quickly gathered momentum. We'll be looking to build on that momentum next year with more events across the country - so watch this space.
