For our third Emerging Leaders webinar of 2020, we're joined by three experienced industry leaders who'll provide their takes on the West Gate Tunnel Project.

Coming from the respective angles of client, contractor and design consultant, our speakers will talk about their specific roles, their key challenges, and why they sit where they do on the  project delivery 'matrix'.

Anthony Vavallo , Construction Director, WGTP
Anthony Vavallo is the Construction Director for the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel Project, being delivered by a joint venture between John Holland and CPB Contractors. The project is delivering twin tunnels between the West Gate Freeway and the Maribyrnong River, a new bridge over the Maribyrnong River and adding four new lanes from the M80 to the West Gate Bridge. A qualified engineer, Anthony began his career in the VicRoads Graduate program before moving into more senior construction and project manager roles with Abigroup and John Holland, here in Victoria and South Australia. Throughout his 20-year career in the construction industry, Anthony has a track record in delivering key infrastructure projects including the $1.14B Adelaide Aqua Desalination Plant, Wodonga Bypass, Geelong Ring Road, Ringwood Station and Interchange Upgrade, Craigieburn Bypass and Melbourne Airport Drive Extension. He is respected across the industry for building tight-knit and motivated teams that deliver projects on time and will an exemplary safety record.

Patricia Thein, Design Manager East Zone, WGTP
Patricia is responsible for overseeing the development, interaction and delivery of the design component associated with the East Zone of the West Gate Tunnel Project for Transurban/Project Co.  She has been in this role for three years and thoroughly enjoys delivering this major project, focusing on effective resolution of design related issues and management of interfaces with rail parties, other major projects and O&M requirements.   Prior to working at Transurban, Patricia worked for engineering design consultancies for over 20 years, working with clients in the Government and Private sectors as a design consultant or manager of technical teams.  Her experience includes development and delivery of road and rail projects, water, mining and energy infrastructure across Australia.

David Gloag, Zone Manager, 
Aurecon Jacobs JV (AJJV), West Gate Tunnel Project   
A Chartered Professional Engineer with 17 years’ experience working on a variety of civil infrastructure, mining and power projects in Australia and Southeast Asia involving highways, bridges, haul roads, railways, jetties, processing plants and power stations.  Key responsibilities have included project management, engineering management, structural design and construction supervision.  Major infrastructure projects include the West Gate Tunnel Project, North Eastern Program Alliance Level Crossing Removal Project, West Gate Bridge Strengthening, Geelong Ring Road Project and the Albury Wodonga National Highway Project.
